When will Southwest release January, February and March 2020 flights? The airline has currently opened the Southwest Flight Schedule for booking through January 5, 2020. However, the remaining January, February and March winter flights are not yet open.
The next release of flights through March 6, 2020 is scheduled to be released on July 10, 2019.
However, these dates have been quite volatile of late with Southwest changing them repeatedly.

The airline releases its Southwest flight schedule for new flights every six to eight weeks and usually announces the next release date as soon as the next batch of flights are available.
Things to Know Before Booking
During the last release of flights, Southwest did not open Wanna Get Away fares to many destinations due to “demand,” they said; however, these were over holiday periods, which are heavily traveled and typically have expensive fares. So it’s possible, depending on the route and dates, that Wanna Get Away fares may not be available.
If that is the case, you may want to consider comparing Southwest fares with other airlines. It pains me to say it, but if they’re not offering low prices and someone else is, then…
The one exception here would be if you hold the Southwest Companion Pass, which lets one person fly free with you for up to two years. That can suddenly make these fares affordable if you don’t even have to pay for ONE person in your traveling party!

It’s Easy to Change or Cancel on Southwest!
Also, keep in mind that there is no fee to change or cancel a flight on Southwest.
However, if you do cancel a Wanna Get Away fare, and you have paid cash or credit, you will only receive a “credit” back good 12 months for future flights on Southwest.
The better plan is to pay with Southwest points if you have them, because those are instantly credited back to your Rapid Rewards account. If you don’t have a Rapid Rewards account, set one up today for free by going to Southwest.com and start earning points for your paid flights!
We have noticed that one of the best sales tends to show up in early June timed to Southwest’s anniversary, so keep an eye out for a good June sale for booking fall and winter flights. I’ll let my email subscribers know as soon as I see it!
Finding a Good Fare
When you’re looking for new flights on the Southwest release date, check both mobile (via the app) and desktop, as often they’re available on one platform before the other. Mostt recently, I’ve seen them on my desktop first.
A great place to start your search is at the Low Fare Calendar where you can find the lowest available price for your flight if you are flexible on dates.
Can I Fly to Hawaii?
Yes! Southwest now officially flies to Hawaii, and you can choose between Oahu or Maui currently. There are now direct flights from San Jose and Oakland, both just outside of San Francisco.
Here’s everything you need to know about Southwest Hawaii flights.
An Easy Way to Earn MORE Points to Book FREE Southwest Flights
My FAVORITE travel credit card Chase Sapphire Preferred, whose points can be instantly transferred to Southwest for free flights (though they DO NOT qualify for the Companion Pass).
Earn 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months of card opening and transfer them at a 1:1 ratio INSTANTLY to Southwest. It does come with a $95 annual fee, but that is FAR less than the value of these points.
Chase Sapphire Preferred also earns double points on dining and travel to help you KEEP earning points for free flights!
Read my full review of this card.
Note: I recommend getting this card AFTER 1 personal and 1 business Southwest card, which can help you quickly earn the Southwest Companion Pass, so one person can fly free with you for up to two years!
Southwest cards include:
- Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus Visa card (personal)
- Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier card (personal)
- Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority card (personal)
- Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business card
All cards currently have a 60,000-point sign-on bonus, though the personal card offers END June 10, 2019.
Again, Southwest flights for the rest of January, all of February and through March 6, 2020 will be released on July 10, 2020.
