Yes, it’s true. The airline announced late yesterday afternoon that Southwest will fly to Hawaii in 2018! We’ve been hearing rumors of this for a while and signs looked like they were headed this direction, but it’s finally official!
Those of you who just applied for two cards and got 120,000 Southwest points AND soon your Southwest Companoin Pass — aren’t you glad?! Imagine being able to use them to fly to Hawaii and bring someone with you FREE!
CEO Gary Kelly says the plan is to sell tickets in 2018, though they don’t yet have a specific schedule or to which destinations in Hawaii though the flights will be from California (no surprise :)).
He says the new Boeing MAX aircraft will be the plane they will use for Hawaii flights but there are some additional certifications they need to complete first.
Here’s what he had to say:
“A day long-awaited by our customers, fans, and more than 55,000 of the world’s most-loved airline employees is finally within sight—a day that will showcase your hospitality, about as far Southwest as you can go in the U.S. Hawaii is an important place for Southwest Airlines because so many people count on us to take them everywhere they want to go reliably and affordably. We’re ready and excited to address a request we’ve heard for years.”
