I’ve been wanting to read this book for a long time and finally did in January 2017! It’s a bestseller by Marie Kondo, a Japanese women who has crafted a unique way to finally get rid of and never return to clutter. Don’t we all need that?
While it’s also a print book, if you find yourself lacking time to read, consider getting the free audio version and listen to it while driving in your car.
To get the audio book free, you need to go to Audible.com, create an account if you don’t have one (I have one but it’s inactive) and sign up for a free 30-day trial. You’ll get to listen to one book free.
Kondo explains in the book how simply tidying up your house so it is clutter free creates an entirely new mindset, which is quite conducive and inspirational for travel.
She urges you to consider each item in your home to determine if it brings you joy. If it does not or is not highly functional, she says to let it go. This leaves you only surrounded by things you love, which makes for a peaceful and joyful environment.
I was able to let go of quite a lot last year and one of my favorite results was my closet. I was left only with about 1/3 of what I had and all of it were items that I actually wear :). I also enjoyed learning how to fold items to both help the fibers last longer and to leave you with more space.
Unfortunately, though I’ve collected more stuff since January of 2017 and need to go through the process again…
Nevertheless, it’s a perfect “listen” for the New Year … enjoy!
