Southwest Companion Pass

I frequently get questions from Go to Travel Gal readers about flying free on Southwest and using the Southwest Companion Pass. I’ll be sharing some reader questions from time to time in case others have the same question :).

One reader asked: Can I use my Companion Pass (ie add a companion who flies free with me) when I pay with both money AND points?

The answer is that no matter how you purchase your ticket, you CAN add a companion. The smartest and cheapest way to fly would be to use points to buy your ticket and then add a companion to fly FREE with you (with the government mandated $5.60 fee each way). You could also use points to pay for anyone else in your party flying with you. This is our technique!

Of course, you can also add a companion if you pay with cash, as well.
