Arriving

When pulling into Baker’s Cay, not far from Key Largo, you’ll see nothing but foliage until you pass through the secured gate that leads to their secluded 15-acre oasis. You’ll definitely feel as though you’ve escaped to a tropical paradise, just closer to home.

Activities

I was delighted to find out that Baker’s Cay has activities for all ages, beginning early in the morning and lasting well into the evening as part of the resort fee, including:

  • Fishing Poles and Bait for Catch + Release Fishing
  • Bicycles, Kayaks and Paddle Boards
  • Nightly Champagne Toast
  • Live Music at Dry Rocks
  • Foam Party
  • S’mores & Stars
  • Outdoor Movie Night with popcorn & candy
  • Spicy Taco Tuesday + Trivia Night
  • Tequila Thursdays
  • The Cay-1 Pineapple Scavenger Hunt
  • and more!

I recommend heading to the Tiki Hut next to Dry Rocks to pick up towels and slather yourself with sunscreen, since you’ll be doing most activities outdoors in the Florida sunshine. This is where you’ll also pick up s’mores packets on select evenings and fishing poles and bait, offered every morning.

You can drop your things on a provided lounge chair at Rock Beach and head to a floating mat or go for a swim to cool off on a beach, which is actually considered a rarity in the Keys. Bring your own snorkel gear and you’re just steps away from seeing what you can discover in the clear, calm waters. Afterward, purchase a beverage or snack from their beach Tiki Hut.

Ready to take it to the next level? Sign up for a time at the Activity Hut to use their kayaks or stand-up paddle boards. Try their Hobie Cat sailboat, Aqua Cycle, clear kayaks, wave runners, go out on a Tiki Boat Sunset Cruise or even parasail right from the resort property for an extra fee.

Want to take one of the bicycles for a spin? Just head to the lobby to sign up.

At the front of the property, you’ll find a ping pong table, corn hole, sand volleyball, an expansive lawn for games and the resort pools. Divided by a waterfall feature, there are 2 sides–one for adults and one for all. If you’re really adventurous (or hot), try standing under the waterfall!

Had enough sun? Take a stroll down Hammock Trail where you’ll find lounge chairs tucked amongst the shade trees at Hammock Beach for a little bit of solitude. They even have tiki huts for Fido if you brought him along.

Along the Hammock Trail, you’ll find the Love Lock Arch, so plan on bringing a fun padlock along to add to the collection.

Indoors, there’s a well-equipped fitness room, an extensive library with lots of seating, a business center, places to plug in and a pool table.

The list is very long of things to participate in at Baker’s Cay, or you can choose to just chill at the beach the whole time you’re visiting!

Accommodations

There are many options available when it comes to choosing the room that’s just right for you, whether you want a waterfront location or need a full suite with a kitchenette and 2 bedrooms or both! You’ll have your choice of a room in the shaded Hammock wing, some with water views, or the more open-to-the-water Coconut wing.

I’d recommend splurging on a water view where you’ll be able to take in the sunset from your balcony if you choose.

All rooms are spotlessly clean, completely updated and outfitted with high-end contemporary furnishings. Included you’ll find tea and coffee service, mini-fridges, microwaves on request, make-up mirrors and an in-room safe to store your valuables. After a full day of activities, slip beneath the quality linens and effortlessly drift off to sleep.

Shopping

Need to do a little retail therapy or just want to splurge while you’re on vacation?

Next to the lobby, there’s a fun boutique holding all kinds of treasures and even some delicious-looking handcrafted gelato pops by Gelatys!

Dining

Baker's Cay Resort, Calusa

After all those activities, it’s time to indulge in a delicious meal.

Calusa is a fine dining Creole-Caribbean restaurant at the Key Largo hotel where you can enjoy breakfast, dinner or Sunday brunch seated indoors or out, overlooking the bay. They take reservations via Open Table.

Once seated, they’ll fill your fun pineapple-shaped glass with water and bring hot bread to your table. Browse the menu, but don’t come here without indulging in the epic Crispy Brussel Sprouts appetizer loaded with bacon, Parmesan cheese and topped with a fried egg. It’s out-of-this-world delicious!

I recommend following that with a dish that is local to the area: Yellowtail Snapper served with coconut rice, beans, red curry, lemongrass butter sauce, mango relish and asparagus.

You’ll definitely want to end your meal with their award-winning white chocolate-crusted and guava-glazed Key Lime pie.

Time it right and enjoy the sunset from your table during their nightly sunset celebration with a complimentary Champagne toast.

Want to go a little more casual? Pull up a swing at Dry Docks where you’ll find live music, fire pits, signature drinks and a variety of Mexican-inspired dishes to enjoy beachside.

How does a plate of shrimp or lobster nachos sound right before sunset?

Want to grab a cup of specialty coffee and a muffin for breakfast in the morning? The lobby holds a cute little coffee cart where you can do just that before you head off to your next adventure!
