Don’t know about you, but after packing light, my next priority when traveling on an airplane is being entertained. Nothing is more soul-crushing that being on a long flight and finding out your phone, laptop and tablet are dying, the in-seat charger doesn’t work, and your paperback is on the nightstand because “Mr. Travel Guru” said it’s too heavy to bring. Argh! What to do?
Well, beginning February 1, American Airlines flyers now have FREE access to Apple Music during their flight. With more than 50 million songs, there’s no way you can get sick of the same tunes even if you want to listen to music from Anchorage to Albuquerque ;-).
“For most travelers, having music to listen to on the plane is just as important as anything they pack in their suitcases,” says Oliver Schusser, vice president of Apple Music.
American is the first commercial airline to provide exclusive access to Apple Music through complimentary inflight WiFi.
Southwest flyers, you may know that you can access iHeartRadio for free now on Southwest flights, as well.
How to Take Advantage of Apple Music on American Airlines
Customers on satellite WiFi-equipped planes can connect to WiFi at no cost and log in with their Apple Music subscription.
Don’t have one? That’s ok. You’ll still be able to connect at no cost, sign up for a subscription onboard and receive FREE Apple Music for three months.
Apple Music is available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, Apple TV, PC, Android, CarPlay, HomePod, Sonos and Amazon Echo.
You can visit applemusic.com/americanairlines for more details and playlists.
Benefits of Apple Music
I’ve been listening to Apple Music for years. For less than $10 a month [Full disclosure: I do not get any compensation from Apple], I can organize my music into playlists, and when I hear a good song at the restaurant on Taco Tuesday, I use the app, Shazam, to identify it. I then immediately open Apple Music, search for the song, and download it to my phone. Simple.
The best thing about Apple Music? Searching the “Browse” section, looking at at what the kids are listening to today, and then asking my college-age daughter, “So, who do you like more: Dreezy or Normani?” That gets an eye roll every time :).
So, sit back and (better) enjoy your flight with this free music on American.
