On our most recent trip this summer, to and from the Rocky Mountains via Denver, I discovered a handy new change from Southwest Airlines that I’m betting is a result of the new reservations system.
I always book my family on Southwest points, which all come from MY Rapid Rewards account, but when I had done that in the past, I had to check everyone in separately. That is a real pain when you’re trying to check in exactly 24 hours ahead of time to score everyone the best possible seats. We always had to have three devices at the ready — usually a computer, phone and iPad.
But NOW, it is listing everyone under ONE confirmation number. At first, I thought it was too good to be true, so I checked everyone in separately, but I didn’t need to! NOW, when you book everyone from the same account’s points, it puts everyone under the same confirmation number. That means you only have to check in ONCE with that confirmation number. Super helpful!!
One note, though. If you hold the Southwest Companion Pass, which lets one person fly FREE with you whether you book with points or cash, you will have to check the Companion in separately. I’m not sure why that is, but when you add them to your flight, it gives them a separate confirmation number. So don’t forget to check them in as well so they also have the best possible seat.
